Renaissance Dream

Renaissance ~ This was the period of clothing that one would say excessiveness began.
Northern European countries were padding their sleeves, doublets, and stockings. Germans put large puffs at the head, shoulders, thighs and small puffs over the chest, back arms, legs and feet. They put feathers on everything from wide brimmed hats to the knees. The clothing at this time seemed to follow all other types of creative expression, it went over the top into new discoveries. Rich heavy materials, in voluminous amounts adorned in every way have reappeared on the fall 2013 runways of the world.

Chanel pre fall 2013 was extravagance and elegance all rolled into one and unfolded at the Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Padded voluminous dresses, jackets that resembled doublets, and high Elizabethan ruffled collars stole the fashion communities hearts. Romance is in the air; expressive opulence meets function and fashion. Karl showed that fashion can be both interesting and functional. Models with ivory skin, black eyeliner, dark nail polish and high updos wore flat boots with tartan plaid kilts, puffy skirts and classic Chanel suits. The most striking part of the collection was the white gold accented gowns when they pierced the Linlithgow halls with beauty and grace. White linen paired with gold was a classic Renaissance look as was lace. His collection was beautiful, interesting, rich, exciting and inspiring.

Alexander McQueen show cased only ten garments, however it was enough to do the trick. The collection had been carefully constructed and attention to detail made them impeccable. The models faces were covered by embellished cages, silk dresses, and pearl detailing which regally took the runway like a Queen takes her throne. Long lace gowns with cobweb lace trains trailing behind, black jackets and fishnets embellished with pearls and gold detailing stole the night. The show had a very sensual reverent heir to the throne feel on the runway; that set the imagination on fire. What girl didn’t once dream of being a Queen and now that dream has become a powerful reality. In the world of fashion Chanel and McQueen out did themselves, detail and wow factor were alive. Sarah Burton had ten show stoppers that were visually stunning. A fantastical show of craftsmanship and fashion.
