The fragrance opens with a sweet rise of ginger orchid, hyacinth, bergamot, green muguet and galbanum. The heart of the scent includes the richness of jasmine sambac, orange flower and romantic rose with an under-tone of sandalwood and cedar wood and hints of musk and amber. During the exclusive launch for the new perfume “Live in Love” by Oscar de la Renta at Lord & Taylors, the designer told us that he feels very passionate about flowers, particularly their scents: “I think that a flower that doesn’t smell is like a woman with no fragrance.” His new fragrance is a remarkable touch on what it is to live in the light of love with a woman’s scent. For a very personal touch, the notes of flowers in the perfume were actually inspired by his own garden in which ginger orchids were imported from France.
In regard to the name of the perfume, de la Renta explained that it was stumbled upon by accident. “We have someone in the workroom, this very talented man who works for us, and over the summer his sleeves were rolled up when we were working…”. It turns out that there was a phrase inked on the worker’s arm that said ‘live in love’, and de la Renta said “My goodness, what an extraordinary name.”
“A fragrance is probably the most luxurious thing that you can buy for a relatively low price, because you don’t need to wear a fragrance but it enhances your life in an extraordinary way.
I always say that it’s sort of like an invisible dress.” said de la Renta at the Lord & Taylor exclusive release of the perfume. “Live in Love” generated an estimate of $25,000 of sales that day at Lord & Taylors, in which its popularity speaks for itself.
The price of the Live in Love scent is $78 for a 1.7 oz bottle and $98 for the 3.4 oz, it can be found at Lord & Taylor and Oscar de la Renta boutiques.
